  • ACTIVA™ BioACTIVE proves a winner

Prestige Dental is delighted to announce that the readers of DrBicuspid.com have voted ACTIVA™ BioACTIVE the best new restorative material.

ACTIVA™ BioACTIVE  products are the first dental resins with a bioactive ionic resin matrix, shock-absorbing rubberised resin component, and reactive ionomer glass fillers that mimic the physical and chemical properties of natural teeth. These bioactive materials actively participate in the cycles of ionic exchange that regulate the natural chemistry of our teeth and saliva, and contribute to the maintenance of tooth structure and oral health.

ACTIVA™ BioACTIVE has the strength, aesthetics and physical properties of composites and releases more fluoride than glass ionomers,1 combining the best attributes of both materials without compromise. It chemically bonds and seals teeth against bacterial leakage,2,3and its continuous release an recharge of calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions provide patients with long-term benefits.

  • Get straight to the point with buried implants

The Pointer is a breakthrough innovation, offering a new way to detect the exact location of buried implants under soft tissue without the need for an invasive procedure.

The Pointer uses a straightforward indicator system that enables the dentist to locate the exact position of the implant quickly and easily – with no need to raise a flap. When swept over the patient’s gum during second-stage surgery, The Pointer uses a green light to indicate an implant’s position. If The Pointer is moved just a fraction away from the implant in any direction the light turns off.  Once located, simply use a tissue punch or, to save tissue, perform a cross incision to gain access.

The Pointer also enables the dentist to administer a reduced dose of anaesthetic, treatment time is halved, there is no need to suture the gum, and the possibility of post-treatment complications is considerably reduced.

‘The Pointer is like a metal detector which shows you exactly where the implant is. It is very useful in cases where the implant is buried, especially where the patient is wearing dentures during the healing process,’ says Graham Browning, Director and Principal Dentist at South Coast Dental Specialists in Wimbourne in Dorset.

The Pointer is available in the UK from Prestige Dental. For more information, please call 01274 721 567or email info@prestige-dental.co.uk.

  • Harness nature with Embrace bioactive resin

Embrace WetBond is a bioactive ionic resin designed to take advantage of saliva in the mouth.

Most traditional resins are hydrophobic, repel saliva and require a dry field. Designed to have a relatively neutral existence in the mouth, they do not take advantage of the positive gains that can be achieved with active materials that behave in a dynamic fashion in the oral environment.1

Conversely, in the presence of moisture, uncured Embrace is acidic and simultaneously etches, ionizes and adheres to tooth structure. The hydrogen ions break off from the phosphate acid group and are replaced by calcium in the tooth structure. This ionic interaction binds the resin to the minerals in the tooth, forming a strong resin-hydroxyapatite complex and a positive seal against microleakage.

When cured, Embrace is a dynamic bioactive system whereby fluoride continuously recharges the saliva and resin.
